About Us
Khamma Ghani!
Far from the golden sands and royal palaces of Rajasthan, a vibrant community thrives in the heart of Richmond, bound together by a shared love for its rich heritage. We are the Royal Rajasthanis of Richmond—a family away from home, where traditions are cherished, stories are shared, and cultural roots are deeply honored.
Our journey as the Royal Rajasthanis of Richmond began in 2021 with a simple desire to create a space where Rajasthani traditions could thrive, even miles away from home. What began as intimate gatherings of like-minded individuals has blossomed into a flourishing community, bound together by festivals, music, cuisine, and the warm hospitality that defines our culture.
From the mesmerizing beats of the dholak to the mouthwatering aroma of freshly made dal baati, we recreate the essence of Rajasthan through grand celebrations, community events, and moments of togetherness. Whether it’s the glow of Diwali diyas, the rhythm of Ghoomar, or the laughter of friends over a hearty Rajasthani feast, we keep the spirit of our homeland stay alive- क्यूंकि घर री याद तो सबने आवे।
A Glimpse of Rajasthan
Rajasthan, a land of kings and queens, is a state in the northwestern part of India, known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes. Its name, which means “Land of Kings,” is a testament to its royal legacy. From the ancient forts and palaces of Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur to the vast Thar Desert, Rajasthan is steeped in a fascinating history that spans centuries. It was once a collection of princely states, each with its own unique traditions, architecture, and art forms, contributing to the state’s remarkable cultural diversity. Rajasthan is a place where history and heritage blend seamlessly, offering a glimpse into India’s royal past.
Key cultural attributes include its traditional music, dance (like Ghoomar), cuisine (dishes include dal baati, gatte ki sabzi & many more), and its vibrant festivals, such as Diwali, Teej, and Gangaur. The state’s rich crafts, including block printing, pottery, and jewelry making, also reflect its deep cultural roots. The common languages used are Hindi, Marwari & Rajasthani.
Our mission is to foster unity, preserve our traditions, and create a vibrant space where members of the Rajasthani diaspora can celebrate festivals, share stories, and support one another. From hosting cultural events like Diwali to organizing gatherings that highlight the art, music, and cuisine of Rajasthan, we aim to keep the spirit of our homeland alive.
